Origins (2019-2020)

Solflare's story didn’t start in crypto; it began with playing Counter-Strike

Led by @vidor_solflare, a group of young men who met through online gaming communities went on to build one of Solana’s most trusted wallets

Even tho they met through gaming, Solflare's founding team, including @filip_solflare and @vidor_solflare, wasn't new to crypto

They had already built on BTC, ETH, Cosmos, Polkadot, and Substrate

What they didn't know until then was Solana...

The Solflare team first discovered Solana in late 2019 during its incentivized testnets

At first it looked like just another chain...

As they spent more time on Discord and explored the tech, for the first time crypto started feeling like building real web apps

In 2020, using Solana was still a pain... no wallets, no UIs, just dev tooling

The Solflare team saw the gap: if Solana was ever going to reach users, it needed a wallet

In May 2020 they launched Solflare v1: a simple web wallet (first wallet on Solana)

2021 was one of the biggest years for Solflare

The team redesigned the web wallet to make it easier to use. They also launched browser extensions

In November 2021, they released Solflare Mobile, the first full Solana wallet on mobile

In Sept 2023, Solflare integrated with MetaMask Snap — opening Solana to 100M+ MetaMask users

The Snaps has been the most successful Snap with over 1.2M downloads and that $100M+ has been bridged from ETH to SOL this way

From day one, Solflare has prioritized security, maintaining zero security issues to date

Their non-custodial design, hardware wallet support, transaction simulation has always been the top priority

In early 2025, Solflare rebranded. The wallet got a complete new design and was rebuilt to become a base for the future of finance
